ARCTIC SPECIALIST (Norway) is a Norwegian-hosted bilateral Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) exercise designed to exercise Mine Countermeasure (MCM) and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) in order to enhance partner capabilities and deter Russian aggression.


ASTRAL KNIGHT (U.S. Air Forces in Europe) is a USAFE exercise that takes place at various locations in Croatia, Germany, Italy, and Slovenia. It is a joint exercise conducting Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) of key terrain. Astral Knight involves a combination of flight operations and computer-assisted exercise scenarios and includes participation from U.S. Naval Forces Europe, U.S. Army Europe, and the Croatian Air Force. USAREUR's participation includes the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command deploying to Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Aviano Air Base, Italy; Port of Koper, Slovenia; and aboard a U.S. Aegis destroyer.

AURORA (Sweden) is a high visibility Live Exercise (LIVEX) where all branches of the Swedish Armed Forces, in collaboration with other authorities and invited partners, will exercise in the southern parts of Sweden in order to strengthen overall defense capabilities.

BREEZE (Bulgaria) is an annual Bulgarian multinational naval exercise in the Black Sea. The exercise is meant to enhance the interoperability on the tactical level among participating naval units and staffs in conducting conventional and non-conventional warfare procedures and to improve the level of interagency coordination and refinement of cooperation with government and non-government organizations.

COLD RESPONSE (Norway) is a Norwegian biennial amphibious exercise under a Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) headquarters. The exercise hopes to enhance high intensity warfighting skills in a multinational environment under challenging geographical and climate conditions with a field training exercise incorporating maritime, land, and air events. The aim of the exercise is to retain and further enhance military capabilities and Allied cooperation in high intensity warfighting in a challenging arctic environment on the tactical level.

DOGU AKDENIZ (Turkey) is a biennial Turkish exercise (alternating with MAVI BALINA) that occurs off the southern coast of Turkey. It is a Turkish-planned and -led exercise held in the spirit of maintaining a strong U.S.-Turkey partnership. This exercise builds interoperability in maritime, air, and sub-surface operations.

DYNAMIC MARINER (NATO) is a NATO-led exercise designed to exercise NATO Response Force (NRF) 2020 Component Command-Marines Headquarters and Forces (Combat Enhancement Training / Force Integration Training), validate the interoperability of NRF 2020 maritime forces at the tactical level, and serve as a LIVEX certification venue for Spanish Marine Forces designated as the NRF 2020 Maritime Component Command.

DYNAMIC MONGOOSE (NATO) is a NATO-led Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) LIVEX conducted off the western coast of Norway in the Norwegian Sea. It is a serialized exercise designed to provide ASW training opportunities at unit up to task group level and to sharpen the ASW and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) skills of participating submarines. It is designed to exercise submarine warfare and ASW warfighting for submarines, ASW surface units, and maritime patrol aircraft in order to conduct sea control- or sea denial-related tasks in preparation for future collective defense and crisis response operations.

JOINT WARRIOR (United Kingdom) is a semi-annual joint exercise hosted, planned, and executed by the UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff (JTEPS). The JW series evolved from the UK Joint Maritime Course exercises started after World War II to improve cooperation between the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. JW exercises are now multilateral, multi-warfare training events designed to provide joint collective training for NATO and partner surface, subsurface, air, and land assets in a multi-threat environment. Since 2015, JW has serves as a Sustainment Certification event for the U.S. Navy Forward-Deployed Naval Force (FDNF) guided-missile destroyers homeported in Rota, Spain.

MARE APERTO (Italy) is a semi-annual Italian national maritime exercise consisting of serialized events focused on Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), and amphibious operations. Training occurs under a simulated Non-Article 5 NATO crisis response mission.

TRIDENT JUPITER (NATO) is a biannual, multilevel computer-assisted command post exercise designed to exercise multiple NATO military headquarters and involves computers instead of military personnel conducting actual operations. ARGONAUT is a Republic of Cyprus-hosted civil-military crisis management exercise supporting non-combatant evacuation operations (NEO) and a search and rescue exercise (SAREX).

DANEX is a Danish-hosted littoral/Baltic Sea Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) exercise.

GRAMPUS is the French-led (CTF 451) version of the STRIKER Theater Anti-Submarine Warfare (TASW) exercise series and takes place in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean. Its goal is to improve the interoperability between partners and the level of core TASW skills.

SPANISH PHIBLEX is a Spanish-hosted high-end amphibious warfighting exercise.

SEA SHIELD is an annual, multinational exercises that takes place in the Black Sea and is based on a fictitious crisis response scenario. It is designed to test, conduct, analyze, and evaluate Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) activities through the employment of ASW, Anti-Air Warfare (AAW), and Mine Countermeasure (MCM). The exercise's aim is to improve the interoperability and combat proficiency of participating units.
