USS Normandy Visits Rota

By Lt.j.g. Brian Weinhardt, USS Normandy Public Affairs

The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) conducted a scheduled port visit to Rota, Spain, Dec. 2-5, 2019.

Normandy’s crew was able to take advantage of some well-deserved time on liberty though only in port for a brief period. The ship was in Rota for approximately three days before getting underway to continue operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet (C6F) area of responsibility.

“To be afforded the opportunity to visit Spain while also accomplishing our mission was great,” said Cmdr. Theresa Kaylor, Normandy’s executive officer. “Our crew has been working extremely hard during this deployment and has enjoyed the opportunity to promote the Navy and Normandy in foreign countries.”

The stop in Rota was Normandy’s third port visit this deployment and its second in the C6F area of responsibility.

Normandy, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, is operating as part of the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) carrier strike group, operating in the C6F area of responsibility as part of a scheduled deployment.
