Arleigh Burke Departs Souda Bay, Greece
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) departed Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Greece, following a scheduled port visit Oct. 16, 2018.
This port visit reaffirms cooperation efforts between partner nations and helps to establish conditions for security and stability in the region.
During the visit, Arleigh Burke Sailors had the opportunity to take several Morale, Welfare and Recreation tours, view historical sights, and experience the culture of Crete.
“Greece was my favorite port that we’ve been to so far,” said Ensign Craig Scott. “The people were wonderful, the restaurants were absolutely amazing and the scenery was breathtaking and gorgeous. I feel blessed that we had the chance to enjoy an authentic Greece visit.”
Arleigh Burke, homeported at Naval Station Norfolk, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.
