Sailors and Marines assigned to the Harpers Ferry-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) began participation in the Romanian-led bilateral exercise Spring Storm 2018, March 8, in the Black Sea, to strengthen U.S.-Romania naval interoperability and combat proficiency.
U.S. participation in this exercise enhances relationships with our Black Sea allies and demonstrates our commitment to collective defense of the Black Sea region.
"The Sailors and Marines of USS Oak Hill are honored to have been selected to participate in an exercise of this magnitude and importance with our Romanian allies in the Black Sea."
-Cmdr. Philip Knight
commanding officer of Oak Hill
"The Marines and Sailors of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit are excited to train alongside our Romanian allies in a challenging, bi-lateral training exercise that provides us the venue to collectively increase our amphibious combat capability, and keep our blade sharp for the fight. By working alongside our allies, we learn from one another, share evolving tactics, techniques, and procedures, and cultivate relationships that enable us to more effectively respond to crisis and to thrive, should we find ourselves in the chaos of combat together."
