U.S. troops participate in Cutaway 2018
U.S. forces began participating in Cutaway 2018, a bi-lateral engagement with French forces in Toulon, France, April 3.
Cutaway 2018 will focus on mine clearance and maritime counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) techniques. The engagement will focus on disabling IEDs and IED disposal, and participants will share tactics, techniques, and procedures to achieve greater interoperability when conducting combined peacekeeping and humanitarian operations while countering global or regional threats to security.
“We are very excited to work hand-in-hand with our allies in Groupe Plongeurs Démineurs during Cutaway 2018. It is essential that we have the opportunity to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures in mine countermeasures (MCM), very shallow water MCM, and counter-improvised explosive device operations with the some of the experts of the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. Our exchange with the French Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal force will help us to improve our interoperability and expertise in key skills in order to complete our commander’s intent and ultimately ensure freedom of navigation.”
