The ship’s presence in the Baltic Sea is a demonstration of our continued commitment to the collective security of the European region.

"We would like to thank our Latvian hosts for the warm welcome and hospitality,” said Cmdr. Craig Trent, commanding officer of Porter.  “It is truly an honor to contribute to the strengthening of U.S.-Latvian relations and the crew looks forward to experiencing the Latvian culture.”

During the port visit in Riga, the ship is scheduled to host a luncheon for Latvian navy sailors, take part in morale welfare and recreation tours and participate in a community relations project.

Porter, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on its sixth patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S national security interests in Europe and Africa.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
