Captain Curtis G. Larson
CAPT Larson enlisted in the Navy in August 1991. After training at Naval Diving & Salvage Training Center and Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) he was assigned to EOD Mobile Unit SIX as an EOD Assistant. In 1995, he selected for Officer Candidate School.
CAPT Larson’s operational tours include Mine-countermeasure (MCM) Rotational Crew BRAVO where he served aboard USS PIONEER (MCM-9) and USS ARDENT (MCM-12) forward deployed in the Arabian Gulf; Officer in Charge (OIC), EOD Mobile Unit FIVE Detachment FIVE ONE, in Sasebo, Japan, conducting operations and exercises throughout the western Pacific; EOD Mobile Unit EIGHT, Sigonella, Italy, where he served multiple platoon OIC deployments and as the unit Operations Officer supporting Naval Forces and Joint Special Operations Task Forces executing Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM; concurrent service as Executive Officer, EODMU FOUR and Deputy Commander, Task Group 56.1- the US Naval Forces Central Command EOD, Diving, and Salvage Task Group in Bahrain; Joint Staff Afghanistan Pakistan Hands (APH) program serving as the coalition partner and International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Liaison to the Commander, Afghanistan National Police Zone 101 responsible for security in the Kabul region; and as Commanding Officer, EOD Training and Evaluation Unit TWO, Ft Story, VA.
Staff tours have included; assignment as Operations and WMD Counter-proliferation Requirements Officer at Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; assignment to US Special Operations Command, Global Support Group – Asia, Middle East Branch; service as the Deputy Director, CNO Executive Panel OPNAV N00K; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Pacific.
CAPT Larson has a Bachelors of Science Degree in History from the University of Wisconsin and is a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College and Maritime Advanced Warfighting School where he earned a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He is qualified as an EOD Officer, Surface Warfare Officer, and Naval Parachutist. He is also designated as a Naval Strategist and Joint Operational Planner. His decorations and awards include: The Defense Meritorious Service Medal (Second Award), Meritorious Service Medal (Fourth Award), Joint Service Commendation Medal (Second Award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Third Award) and various campaign and service awards.
