Captain Matthew J. Lehman
A native of Dallas, Pennsylvania, Captain Lehman graduated from Villanova University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Captain Lehman’s assignments at sea include Operations and Combat Systems Department division officer tours in USS JOHN RODGERS (DD 983), pre-commissioning Damage Control Assistant in USS CARNEY (DDG 64) and the assistant TLAM Officer on the COMSIXTHFLT staff. Following Department Head training in Newport, RI, he reported to USS MONTEREY (CG-61) as the Weapons Control Officer/Combat Systems Officer. Captain Lehman has also served as the Executive Officer in USS COWPENS (CG-63). Additionally, Captain Lehman volunteered to serve on the Joint Task Force PALADIN staff in Bagram Afghanistan as the Officer in Charge, Joint Counter Radio-Controlled IED Electronic Warfare Division. Captain Lehman returned to Yokosuka, Japan and reported to the USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56) as the Executive Officer/Commanding Officer from February 2010 to April 2012.
Ashore, Captain Lehman earned a Master’s degree from the Naval War College and has served as Surface Ship Placement Officer (PERS 413) prior to assuming duties as the PERS-41 Deputy Director at Navy Personnel Command in Millington. Following his command tour he returned to Navy Personnel Command where he served as the Washington DC Placement Officer and the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Navy Personnel Command. Captain Lehman completed his Joint assignment in the Office Secretary of Defense, Director Operational Testing and Evaluation, Naval Warfare. He is to report in November 2016 as the Deputy Commodore to Command Task Force 65, homeported in Naples, Italy.
Captain Lehman’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
