LA GOULETTE, Tunisia,
The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Arlington (LPD-24) arrived in Tunis, Tunisia, 21 March 2019. The scheduled port visit is aimed at enhancing U.S.-Tunisia relations as the two nations work together to strengthen regional security and stability.
Capt. Paul Lanzilotta, Arlington’s commanding officer, said that the ship’s presence in North Africa is a demonstration of our continued commitment to our regional partners and a testament to the strong and developing military partnership between the United States and Tunisia.
“My crew looks forward to this port visit and the relationships we expect to build here in Tunisia,” said Lanzilotta. “We look forward to additional opportunities to interact with our Tunisian counterparts in the days to come.”
Prior to the port visit, the Arlington conducted training at sea with the Tunisian Air Force 37th Helicopter Squadron. Training opportunities, demonstrated the commitment to strengthening partnerships in the region. Tunisia is an important regional partner and participates in a variety of critical security exercises.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
