WINDHOEK, Namibia –
Admiral George M. Wikoff, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Africa (NAVAF), visited Windhoek and Walvis Bay this week to meet with Namibian government officials alongside U.S. Ambassador to Namibia John Giordano.
The visit focused on shared maritime interests between Namibia and the United States.
“There are many mutually beneficial opportunities for our nations to promote maritime security for trade in the South Atlantic,” said Wikoff.
“As maritime nations in the Atlantic community, we have shared economic interests that the sea lanes remain free and open for commerce.” said Giordano.
For more than 80 years, Naval Forces Africa has forged strategic relationships, leveraging a foundation of shared values. Headquartered in Naples, Italy, NAVAF operates U.S. naval forces in both the U.S. Africa Command and U.S. European Command areas of responsibility.
