LISBON, Portugal (NNS) –
The Blue Ridge-class command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, Oct. 11, for a scheduled port visit.
While in Lisbon, George E. Glass, U.S. Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic, will visit the ship for a tour and NATO members will embark before getting underway.
Mount Whitney is slated to participate in exercise Trident Juncture 2018. Trident Juncture is a NATO-led exercise designed to certify NATO response forces and develop interoperability among participating NATO and partner nations.
"As we gear up for Trident Juncture, the crew will appreciate the hospitality that Lisbon is known for," said Capt. George R. Aguilar, commanding officer of Mount Whitney.” We also look forward to the opportunity to meet Ambassador Glass and show him around the ship.”
Mount Whitney, forward-deployed to Gaeta, Italy, is underway in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe.
