By Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Scott Bigley

Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 8 held a change of command ceremony at Naval Station Rota, Spain, Sept. 6, 2019.

During the ceremony, Cmdr. Jeffrey DeMarco was relieved by Cmdr. Stephan Duba as the commanding officer of EODMU 8.

DeMarco highlighted the many accomplishments of each department and thanked the unit for their dedication to the Navy.

“I thank all of you and your families for continuing to serve,” said DeMarco. “Jenna and I have truly enjoyed serving with you over the past few years.”

In his remarks to the crew, Duba, the new commanding officer, expressed his desire to build upon the successes of EODMU 8 during his tour.

“I am looking forward to enabling this impressive team of warfighters to go forward, answer the call of our nation, and continue to strengthen our longtime European and African partnerships,” said Duba.

Navy Expeditionary Combat Force Europe-Africa/Task Force 68 is responsible for providing explosive ordnance disposal operations, naval construction, expeditionary security and theater security efforts to Naval Forces Europe-Africa and U.S. 6th Fleet.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
