DEVESELU, Romania –
Naval Support Facility (NSF) Deveselu, Romania received its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine, Feb. 12, 2021, and the installation’s medical team began the process of inoculating base personnel.
NSF Deveselu’s medical team is administering the vaccine, manufactured by Moderna, to Department of Defense (DoD) personnel on a voluntary basis, in accordance with DoD and Navy guidance.
The Moderna vaccine was one of two COVID-19 vaccines recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
Medical, emergency services, and public safety personnel assigned to NSF Deveselu and tenant command Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System (AAMDS) Romania were the first to be vaccinated.
“Our exceptional team in medical, led by our superstar nurse practitioner, was able to vaccinate the entire base population of those volunteering to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in only two days,” said Capt. Morris Oxendine, NSF Deveselu’s commanding officer.
All personnel at NSF Deveselu are continuing to practice preventive measures against COVID-19, including wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, washing hands, and restriction of movement, in order to protect their safety.
NSF Deveselu’s operations enable the responsiveness of U.S. and allied forces in support of the mission of Navy Region Europe, Africa, Central (EURAFCENT) to provide services to the fleet, fighter, and family throughout the EURAFCENT theaters of operation.
