C6F is headquartered at Capodichino Navy Base, with Support Site Gricignano serving as our primary neighboring installation, where most housing assignments and primary facilities are located.

 

Next Steps Before You Arrive

 
1. Review Your Welcome Resources

You will receive a "Welcome Letter" containing:

  • Upon Receipt of PCS Orders to an Overseas Location
  • Letter from the Ombudsman
  • “Communicating With Your Sponsor” Guide and Questionnaire
2. Complete the Sponsorship Questionnaire

Return the completed questionnaire to your sponsor as soon as possible. This allows us to better tailor support for you and your family.

3. Connect With Your Sponsor

Your sponsor will guide you step-by-step through the overseas PCS process and answer questions specific to your situation.

Passports & Visas

Service Members
  • Government no-fee passports are not required unless specifically directed in your orders.
  • Civilian Passports are required if you intend to live out in the local economy.
Family Members & Civilians
  • Government no-fee passports and Italian visas are required.
  • Start early — passport processing can take up to two months, which may delay travel.

Travel Booking

🚫 Do NOT personally procure airline tickets.
All PCS travel must be arranged through your CPPA and NAVPTO.

Arrival Essentials
  • Personal Passport: Required for off-base movement and travel
  • Driver’s License: Required to register and operate a vehicle
  • Check-In Documents (submit via sponsor or in person with Admin):
    • Stamped orders
    • NATO orders
    • All travel itineraries (member and dependents)


Lodging & Housing


Housing Assignments
  • Accompanied families: To efficiently utilize government-controlled housing, NSA Naples has implemented direct assignment to base housing for all pay grades with accompanying family members on PCS orders. Families are assigned to base housing for their first year.
  • Single/unaccompanied E-5 and above & officers: May move directly into economy housing
  • 60 days TLA authorized for house hunting (not TDY)
 
Economy Housing Costs

🚫 Do Not Bring Large Appliances
  • Washers, dryers, and dishwashers are provided
  • Most U.S. appliances are incompatible with Italian voltage
Cost of Living Allowance (COLA)

Personnel authorized to reside off base will receive COLA Single or COLA with dependents

COLA amount varies by local currency value, pay grade, years of service, number of dependents, and the number of days in a month. It is not a flat rate like BAH. COLA begins on the date you report, or the day after Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) ends, if authorized.

DoD Civilians receive an Annual Living Quarters Allowance (LQA), Naples LQA rates can be found on the LQA Allowances website: https://allowances.state.gov/web920/lqa_all.asp?MenuHide=1

In some cases DoD Civilians will also receive Post Allowance (locality pay) rates are available at the U.S. Department of State website. https://allowances.state.gov/web920/cola.asp
 

 

Transportation & POVs

  • Base-provided bus transportation is available between Capodichino, Support Site, and JFC
  • POV shipments may be delayed up to two months or longer; many members purchase an interim vehicle (€3,000–€5,000). Plan financially.

Electric Vehicles
  • Not permitted in base housing; any on base charging of EVs will be ticketed 
  • No charging stations on base, using base electricity is prohibited
  • Economy housing rarely supports charging — plan carefully


Pets

 

Entry Into Italy & EU Entry/Exit System (EES)

Effective 12 October 2025, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) applies to non-EU travelers.

To avoid issues:

  • Family Members: Carry valid tourist passports
  • Service Members: Enter with NATO orders and military ID
  • Dependents/Civilians: Use Permesso di Soggiorno
  • At airports: Always use the “Resident” line

Childcare Provider Travel Reimbursement (PCS)

Families may be eligible for reimbursement for a non-dependent childcare provider during PCS if:

  • Full-time childcare is requested via MilitaryChildCare.com
  • The spouse works full-time, is seeking employment, or is enrolled in school full-time
  • The provider is not a dependent

Active Duty for Operational Support (ADOS) orders


Single members on ADOS orders for 181 – 365 days, and authorized a partial HHG shipment entitlement (UB shipment) are entitled one housing allowance for their place entered active duty (PLEAD) shown on the orders. If address on order is CONUS, members receive Basic Allowance Housing (BAH), if address is OCONUS, member receives Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA) for PLEAD (with an approved OHA form).

 

-Member may request OHA for ULTDUSTA location vice PLEAD BAH/OHA, if approved via Secretarial process.

Single members on ADOS orders 180 or less days who receive an orders extension of 181 or more remaining on active duty, are entitled to OHA on the effective date of the order extension after approval of request for OHA in lieu of housing entitlement for PLEAD.

Members with dependents on ADOS orders of 181 or more are entitled to housing allowance for PLEAD shown on orders and Overseas Housing Allowance (FSH-OHA) for ULTDUSTA location.

Any member on orders for 180 days or less is entitled to housing entitlement for PLEAD and per diem.
