EOD Training Facility Construction at Lora Naval Base Breaks Ground
Split, Croatia - 210417-N-NO901-0003 SPLIT, Croatia (April 17, 2021) The U.S. breaks ground with Ministry of Defense on a training facility at Lora Naval Base in Split, Croatia. The groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of construction on a project with a total program value of nearly 10 million kuna, including construction, training, and equipment provided by the U.S. This facility will advance Croatia’s underwater mine-clearance capabilities, with the benefit of training by the U.S. Navy’s Sixth Fleet Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU8). Cooperation and joint training with Croatian mine-clearance divers enhances U.S.-Croatia interoperability at sea. The Croatian Navy contributes to increasing collective security and improved freedom of navigation through NATO and recent participation in Sea Guardian. This project bolsters the U.S.-Croatia partnership at sea and coordination between the U.S. Navy and Croatia’s Navy. (U.S. Navy photo courtesy U.S. Embassy Zagreb)
