KIEL, Germany –
U.S. 6th Fleet command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) arrived in Kiel, Germany, May 31, 2019 for a scheduled port visit.
Mount Whitney’s visit helps strengthen the relationship between the two allied countries and demonstrate commitment to regional stability and maritime security.
“The Mount Whitey team is glad to be in Kiel” said Capt. Cassidy Norman, commanding officer of Mount Whitney. “We are fortunate to visit Kiel often and our sailors and Civilian Mariners have always enjoyed the hospitality of Kiel and opportunity to work and engage with our Germany allies. We are excited about this port visit and how it will prepare us for upcoming exercises and operations.”
Mount Whitney, forward deployed to Gaeta, Italy operates with a combined crew of U.S. Sailors and Military Sealift Command civil service mariners in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
