THESSALONIKI, Greece –
The Arleigh Burke-class, guided-missile destroyer USS McFaul (DDG-74) departed Thessaloniki, Greece Sept. 2, 2019 after a scheduled port visit.
While in port, McFaul hosted a reception onboard for local officials, guests and media. This is the first time a U.S. Navy ship has visited Thessaloniki in over a year.
“With over seven months at sea, everyone really appreciates the opportunity to make a port visit,” said Master Chief Jason Kutsch, command master chief of McFaul. “Visiting Greece has definitely been a highlight of our deployment.”
McFaul is currently supporting U.S. national security interests in Europe and the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations before departing to the Atlantic Ocean.
“We have a strong partnership and rich history with Greece,” said Cmdr. Rusty Williamson, commanding officer of McFaul. “We share many interests which ensure security and stability in the region.”
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests, security and stability in Europe and Africa.
