FAROE ISLANDS –
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) arrived in the Faroe Islands, Oct. 10, 2019.
The scheduled port visit at the Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, helps to create an opportunity to enhance U.S. relations with people and officials from the Faroe Islands and the Kingdom of Denmark. The ship’s presence in the North Atlantic Ocean demonstrates mutual commitment to regional security and stability.
“Our crew looks forward to this historic port visit to the Faroe Islands,” said Cmdr. Kelley T. Jones, commanding officer of the ship. “This visit will allow us to strengthen our relationship with the Faroese and Danish people and allow our crew to experience the rich history of Faroe Islands. It is also a symbol of our strong security partnership with the Kingdom of Denmark and we look forward to the continued cooperation.”
Strengthening partnerships during the port visit creates and builds enduring relationships and emphasizes our shared commitment to promoting security and stability within the region, while seeking opportunities to enhance our interoperability.
“I’m looking forward to visiting the Faroe Islands, because from what I’ve seen on the internet it is breathtaking,” said Yeoman Seaman Mark Julian Martinez. “It is someplace I’ve never been, and I can’t wait to see what the people are like, how the food is, and what the town has in store for us.”
Donald Cook is currently on patrol in support of U.S. national security interests in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
