USS Porter arrives in Koper, Slovenia

By Mass Communications Specialist Third Class T. Logan Keown

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) arrived in KOPER, Slovenia, Aug. 27, 2019. The visit serves to enhance U.S.-Slovenia relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous European region.

While in port, the ship will participate in the beautification of a local school during a community relations event. Sailors will also have the opportunity to attend multiple morale, welfare and recreation tours.

"The crew has been working very hard, and this is a great opportunity for them to experience the rich culture of Slovenia, especially this time of year,” said Cmdr. Craig Trent, commanding officer of Porter. “We are looking forward to the hospitality and everything Koper has to offer.”

Strengthening partnerships during the port visit to Koper builds enduring relationships and emphasizes our shared commitment to promoting safety and stability within the region, while seeking opportunities to enhance our interoperability as NATO allies.

Porter is on its seventh patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of regional allies and partners, and U.S. national security interests in Europe.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
