MEDITERRANEAN SEA –
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) is participating in the French-led maritime exercise PEAN 19, Nov. 25 - Dec. 6, 2019, in the Mediterranean Sea.
The maritime exercise focuses on carrier strike group (CSG) interoperability and will include operations across all maritime warfare disciplines to enhance tactical-level skills and promote interoperability between participating naval forces.
“The professionalism and tactical acumen of the Charles de Gaulle Carrier Strike Group is well known, and we have had the opportunity to see it first-hand earlier this year” said Cmdr. Dave Coles, commanding officer of USS Ross, “PEAN 19 is an excellent opportunity to improve our tactical prowess and strengthen our allied maritime force.”
The exercise provides operational training for participating units in the areas of planning and conducting anti-surface, anti-subsurface, and anti-air warfare. Participating nations include France, Italy, Spain, and the United States.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
