MARSEILLE, France –
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) arrived in Marseille, France, Sept. 4, 2019. The visit serves to enhance U.S.-France relations as the two nations work together for a stable, secure and prosperous European region.
While in port, the ship will conduct two community relations events with local children during a sports event, work with Marseille Naval Fire Battalion, and have the opportunity to participate in multiple Morale, Welfare and Recreation tours.
"The crew and I are excited to visit Marseille and the surrounding area,” said Cmdr. Craig Trent, commanding officer of Porter. “This is a great opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of Southern France, especially this time of year. Additionally, we have some community relations opportunities with the local population.”
Porter is on its seventh patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of regional allies and partners and U.S. national security interests in Europe.
Strengthening partnerships during the port visit to Koper builds enduring relationships and emphasizes our shared commitment to promoting safety and stability within the region, while seeking opportunities to enhance our interoperability as NATO allies.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
